Awarded films

The 61th annual Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen (Germany, April 30 – May 5) focussed on 3D cinema. With “Das Dritte Bild – 3D-Kino als Experiment” six programs were curated that tried to show how previous filmmakers used 3D in their works, but also what that special technique could add to the current state of short film.

Of course there was still enough space for traditional competition. The international Jury with George Clark, Andréa Picard, Marta Ponsa, Park Chan-kyong and Kati Kivinen, awarded “Sound of My Soul”, by Polish artist Wojciech Bakowski, the top prize.

FIPRESCI, meanwhile, agreed on Payal Kapadia’s “The Last Mango Before the Monsoon” as the most magnificant work in the International competition.

Newly restored material from BFI National Archive (London), Academy Film Archive (Los Angeles), Österreichisches Filmmuseum (Vienna), and the National Film Center (Tokio) was presented. (Caroline Weidner)
