Zaire Zarza

Film Critic, Cuba

Zaira Zarza is a doctoral candidate in Cultural Studies at Queen’s University, Canada. She obtained both a Bachelor and a Master degree in Art History at the University of Havana. After working as assistant curator at the Ludwig Foundation of Cuba, she worked for several years in the Department of Social Research of the Cuban Film Institute, edited the online journal of the Latin American Film Foundation and was script writer and host of the session on film criticism in the television show Nuevos Aires devoted to Cuban youth cinema. She has collaborated with journals such as “Cine Cubano”, “La Gaceta”, “Istmo” and “Cartelera de Cine y Video”. Her book “Caminos del cine brasileño contemporáneo” was published by Ediciones ICAIC in 2010. Her current research focuses on Cuban youth diasporic cinemas.
