Siegfried Kracauer Prize 2019

The MFG Film Fund Baden-Württemberg and the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, together with the German Film Critics Association, award the Siegfried Kracauer Prize 2019 to journalist Tobias Kniebe for “Best Film Review”. Daniel Kothenschulte receives a Special Mention. Till Kadritzke receives the Siegfried Kracauer Scholarship.

Tobias Kniebe wins the prize for “Best Film Review” with his review of Damien Chazelle’s film First Man. It was published under the title “Der Mann im Schleudersitz” (“The Man in the Ejector Seat”) in the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” on 8 November 2018. The prize is endowed with 3,000 euros. Daniel Kothenschulte is awarded a Special Mention for his text “Das falsche Bild” (“The False Picture”), a review of Florian Henkel von Donnersmarck’s Werk ohne Autor (“Never Look Away”), which was published in September 2018 in the monthly magazine “Monopol”. The scholarship for the year 2019/20 totalling 12,000 euros will go to film critic Till Kadritzke, who will write a six-part series of articles on the future of cinema and a regular blog. The media partner for the scholarship is the renowned “Filmdienst”. The award ceremony took place on November 3, 2019, during the award ceremony of the Biberach Film Festival.
