The International Film Festival of Kerala in Trivandrum — organized by the Kerala State Chalachitra (motion picture) Academy — showcased a large number of features, documentaries and shorts from all over the world, enthusiastically welcomed by the local public and by film-lovers from all over India. Guests from abroad could discover an interesting competition: 14 features from the three continents South America (Argentina, Mexico, with two films), Africa (with only one from Egypt) and Asia (with eleven films, from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Uzbekistan). Some of those films, if not the bigger part, came from smaller countries and can hardly be seen at other festivals. — FIPRESCI has given an award to the Bangladesh feature Forever Flows (Nirontor) by Abu Sayeed. It portrays the struggle of Tithi, a young girl who comes of a lower middle class family and takes up the job of a call girl and in so doing sacrifices her private life for the sake of her family.
