The Torino Film Festival celebrated 31 years and record ticket sales in 2013. New Director Paolo Verde, a magnanimous and passionate man, appears to have revived international and local interest in grand style. Torino, the jewel like historic Piedmontese town set at the base of the Italian Alps, was jammed with filmgoers and fans for nine days. They were online at 8.30 in the morning at midnight for nine days, November 21st to 30th. Snow and unseasonably cool weather didn’t slow them down. Outside the theatres, magnificent architecture spanning millennia and light displays set up for the festival combined with that Italian warmth resulted in a memorable experience for all. Oh and there was a chocolate festival on beside the press building! (Anne Brodie)
