“Few films have captured the cut-throat depravities of late-stage capitalism with such insight and inventiveness. For a story that’s so rooted in its geo-cultural context, this parable of a man who’s suddenly made redundant feels both topical and universal. And yet none of it comes across as preachy. What’s most riveting about the film is its director’s ability to seesaw between different registers and genres to conjure something that feels at once sinister and devilishly entertaining. Both thematically and visually rich, this wild caper weaponizes the environment around its protagonist through striking camera placements, the intersection of contemporary technology, and other bold directorial choices.”
