FIPRESCI Jury at the Montreal International Documentary Festival

FIPRESCI is pleased to announce, starting November 2025, the appointment of its new jury at the Montreal International Documentary Festival (RIDM), the documentary film festival founded in 1998 by a group of Quebec filmmakers and dedicated to supporting and showcasing the best in documentary cinema, while also fostering dialogue and exchange between filmmakers, industry professionals, and the public through retrospectives, masterclasses, roundtable discussions, and parallel activities. The festival also supports and encourage the production of independent documentaries through its professional market, Forum RIDM. Montreal International Documentary Festival will also contribute in honouring FIPRESCI’s 100 Anniversary as part of the Federation’s year-round celebrations.

” With Montreal International Documentary Festival’s established success, artistic merit, and dedication to diversity and inclusion, we think it’s the right historical moment to start a collaboration that will hopefully last long”, says Ahmed Shawky, President of FIPRESCI.

The Montreal International Documentary Festival’s New Visions Competition brings together national and international first feature documentaries, shining a light on some of the most promising emerging filmmakers. The FIPRESCI jury will present its Critics’ Prize to a film from the New Visions lineup.

“The collaboration with FIPRESCI marks a meaningful step in gaining international recognition for this competition dedicated to first feature films. We are thrilled to welcome the FIPRESCI jury, to join in celebrating the organization’s Centenary, and to engage together in thoughtful dialogue around a dynamic and diverse culture of cinematic reflection.”, say Ana Alice de Morais, Marlene Edoyan and Hubert Sabino-Brunette, Artistic Co-directors of the RIDM.
