FIPRESCI Launches First Critics’ Jury at D’A Festival de Cinema de Barcelona

The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) is proud to announce a new and exciting collaboration with the D’A Festival de Cinema de Barcelona, marking the establishment of FIPRESCI’s first official critics’ jury at the festival’s upcoming 16th edition, scheduled to take place March 19–29, 2026.
This collaboration reaffirms FIPRESCI’s mission to support and spotlight emerging cinematic voices. A three-member international jury, including one Spanish critic, will present the FIPRESCI Award to a first or second feature in the festival’s Competition program, amplifying new talent in the global film landscape.
As Barcelona’s leading film festival, D’A is celebrated for its vibrant and diverse audience, and for curating a rich selection of independent and auteur-driven cinema. The festival is both a vital cultural event in the city and a global platform for cinematic discovery, having previously honored renowned filmmakers such as Claire Denis, Béla Tarr, Céline Sciamma, and Alice Rohrwacher.
“Together, FIPRESCI and D’A Festival are setting the stage for deeper dialogue, broader recognition, and greater support for the next generation of global filmmakers“, says FIPRESCI’s President Ahmed Shawky.
This new partnership highlights the importance of international collaboration in championing independent cinema. It also aligns with the mission of D’A Film Lab Barcelona, the festival’s industry program supporting the development of early-career Spanish filmmakers, by connecting local talent with the broader critical and creative community.
