Gandhi Medal 2022
The film Nargesi, directed by Iranian filmmaker Payam Eskandari, received the UNESCO Gandhi Medal, presented by the International Council for Film, Television and Audiovisual Communication (ICFT/CICT) at the International Film Festival of Goa in India. The jury commented: “Compassion and tenderness are two of the qualities of this film which is about a man with Down syndrome, its burden and consequences for him, his mother, brother and the people around him.” The jury was composed of Isabelle Danel (France, president of FIPRESCI, journalist), Poona Sharma (India, actress and scriptwriter), Boglárka Nagy (Hungary), Mahamat Saleh Haroun (France, Chad, director), and Ahmed Bedjaoui (Algeria, journalist, director, producer).
