Critics Plead for “Leviathan”
The critics jury established by FIPRESCI at the Palm Springs International Film Festival focussed on the films submitted to the Foreign Language Academy Awards (and shown at the festival) and selected Andrey Zvyagintsev, the Russian filmmaker’s “Leviathan” as Best Foreign Language Film of the Year (2014). Motivation: “At once timely and timeless, this film manages to comment on contemporary issues in a way that is both artistically stunning and deeply humane.”
