Munich: Young German Cinema
Munich. At the FilmFest Munich (Germany, June 23 – July 2, 2016), the critics forming our jury focused on German films. The winner: “Dinky Sinky” by Mareille Klein (Germany, 2016, 90 min).
Motivation: “With a deceptive lightness of touch and a warm sense of humor, director Mareille Klein chronicles a woman’s internal and external struggles to become a mother, with the complexity of the protagonist beautifully suggested through the precise yet fluid writing and the exceptional talent of actress Katrin Röver, who embodies the thoughts and feelings of a woman having to deal with an unreliable partner; friends and acquaintances who all seem to have kids; students that mock her authority and obsession with fertility and a furry child substitute that has life sucked out of it in the most unfortunate manner.”
Jury members were: Boyd Van Hoeij, Luxemburg (“The Hollywood Reporter”), Luca Pellegrini, Italy (“Avvenire”, “Rivista Del Cinematografo”), Kaan Karsan, Turkey (“Eksi Sinema”, “Altyazi”). Coordination: Annie Brishoual.
