Amirata Joolaee

Amirata Joolaee is an Iranian film and theatre critic, scholar, and translator who began his professional career in 2006. He holds a PhD in the Philosophy of Art, a background that informs his critical approach to contemporary cultural discourse. Following his departure from Iran in 2022, he has been living in exile in Germany, where his work focuses on artistic resistance and displacement. Since early 2025, Joolaee has served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Iranian Independent Filmmakers Association (IIFMA) website, overseeing both its Persian and English editions. His research and commentary examine the intersections of independent cinema, censorship, and creative autonomy.
