Holger Heiland

Born in Frankfurt am Main in 1969, he lives in Berlin, working as a writer, editor, teacher and cultural critic. He graduated from Humboldt University, Berlin, with a degree in social andcultural sciences, and went on to complete a postgraduate degree in film. Prior to becominga film journalist, he wrote and directed films with his own production company fruehlingfilme. His short genre piece Tangled (2000) was screened at the Filmfest Dresden, theGerman Fantasy Filmfest and in Busan. As a writer, he has published stories, a novella and anovel. He has been writing articles for the weekly newspaper Jungle World for over 20 yearsand regularly contributes to other media, including Die Presse (Vienna) and the Kunst + Filminternet platform. As a film journalist, he is primarily interested in contemporary auteurcinema and, in particular, new and unique perspectives on the world around us. In 2024, hepublished the essay collection “Himmel. Steine. Tiere. Menschen. Neue Blicke auf die Weltim aktuellen Kino” with the renowned publishing house Schüren.
