Oh Young-Suk

Oh Young-Suk is a film critic and Research Professor at the Institute for East Asian Studies, Sungkonghoe University. She has served as a juror at the Jeonju International Film Festival, the Ulju Mountain Film Festival, the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival. Her work focuses on the relationship between collective emotions and cinema. Her books include Mindscapes of Modern Korean Cinema(2024), Korean Cinema and Cultural Discourses in the 1950s(2007), The Experience of Defection and its Cinematic Representation(2013), and The War Constructed by the Camera, the Cold War Edited: War and Psychological Warfare(2025). She has translated The Fright of Real Tears by Slavoj Žižek and Narration in the Fiction Film by David Bordwell. She has published academic articles such as “The Context and Signification of Testimony: A Comparative Study of ‘Comfort Women’ Documentaries from Korea, Taiwan, and Japan” and “21st Century Korean Cinema, ‘Hatred of Poverty’ and Youth”.
