The 78th Cannes Film Festival wrapped on May 24th, after a special edition for FIPRESCI. During Cannes, film critics from all over the world celebrated the 100th anniversary of their federation, which was initiated as an idea by critics from Belgium and France in 1925, and gave the first FIPRESCI award in the first edition of Cannes in 1946. The jury of the International Federation of Film Critics at the Cannes Film Festival has awarded, Saturday the 24th 2025, the International Critics’ Prize in the Official Selection – Competition to The Secret Agent by Kleber Mendonça Filho. «We chose a film that has a novelistic, epic generosity; that allows for digression, diversion, humor and character, to evoke a time and place, and a rich, strange and deeply troubling story of corruption and oppression. A film that makes its own rules, is personal yet universal, that takes its time and acts as a memory vessel for a world : the world of military-ruled Brazil in 1977, and the world of good people in bad times.» Discover other two prizes here.
