Dunja Bialas

Dunja Bialas, film critic and festival director. After studies in French literature and literature theories in Munich and Paris, she worked as a critic of literature and fine arts before devoting her writings to film. Since 2000 she has been the editor of the German film magazine “artechock”, founded in 1996 and thus one of the first and oldest still publishing online film magazines. From 2003 to 2013, she was a programmer at the Munich International Documentary Film Festival DOK.fest. In 2006, she co-founded UNDERDOX, an international film festival focused on hybrid, experimental or pure documentary and fictional film forms. From 2013 to 2023, she was the spokesperson for the Association of German Film Critics board. She teaches young students in film criticism at the renowned Munich Ludwig Maximilian University. She lives and works in Munich.
