Hannes Wesselkämper

Hannes Wesselkämper is a film scholar, curator, and freelance film critic. Currently, he works for Cinepoetics – Center for Advanced Film Studies at the Filmuniversität Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF, where he completed his PhD in 2022. A monograph on cinematic surfaces and the notion of spectacle is in preparation (De Gruyter, 2024). Among his research foci are film history and aesthetics, media theory, short and experimental film as well as film festival research.

He has written for various scholarly anthologies and journals, but also journalistic outlets such as Deutschlandfunk Kultur and critic.de as well as the film-educational platform kinofenster.de. Several film festivals have shown his curated short film programs, most recently the Filmfestival Max Ophüls Preis. He has done jury work for the European Media Art Festival Osnabrück, International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, and the Short Film Week Regensburg, among others.
