22nd Stockholm Film Festival

FIPRESCI and the Stockholm Film Festival have a cooperation from long years. The aim of the festival is to broaden the offer of films in Sweden with creative new films of high quality and to provide the visitor with an orientation within modern cinema and to stimulate a continuing debate. With seminars, opportunities to meet actors and filmmakers during the “face2face” initiative along with the extensive catalogue, all means are used to make the film experience effective. In the past more than 2000 movies from all over the world has been screened at the festival, guests were welcomed like Dennis Hopper, Lauren Bacall, Gena Rowlands, Ang Lee, David Cronenberg, Roman Polanski, Terry Gilliam and Elia Kazan — they all have all attended the event. The festival is also recognized for its promotion of young and yet unestablished filmmakers. As many as a third of the films selected were made by debuting directors, only filmmakers who have made less than three films are selected. In 2011 our three members’ jury focused on the “Open Zone” section, which included feature films from acclaimed directors in contemporary cinema from around the world. Our jury awarded the FIPRESCI Prize to the European coproduction Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy by Swedish Tomas Alfredson, motivating that “the director is highly proving his great talent in making a political thriller which richness is fulfilled by the excellent cast and the visual perfection.”
