Motivation: “The FIPRESCI jury Blue Angel award recognises a film demonstrating exceptional creative vision and artistic merit. Our winner is an ambitious and insightful work that avoids the false certainties of hindsight and resists quick judgements. It illuminates Europe’s politically charged past and present alike by exploring themes of individual and collective exile, trauma and systemic violence against women that persists to this day. Its dramaturgy and cinematography are united in recognising the complex and changeable nature of human beings. Together, its visual style and narrative structure create painterly imagery, subtle metaphors, and reflections of its central protagonist and her multifaceted personal identity and past”.
FIPRESCI celebrates 100th anniversary:
As a tribute to the history, a screening of the past FIPRESCI winner The Garden (Záhrada) by Martin Šulík took place.
Festival organized a panel discussion on film criticism with FIPRESCI jury members and federation’s Vice President Elena Rubashevska. The talk can be watched on the link.
