Alexander Gabelia

 Alexander Gabelia holds a PhD in Cultural Studies from Ilia State University. He is a film researcher, programmer, and lecturer, as well as a correspondent for the European online platform FilmNewEurope.com and co-editor of the Georgian film platform CinExpress.ge. A member of FIPRESCI and president of the Georgian Film Critics and Scholars Association (GFCASA) since November 2023. He co-organized the first International Scientific Summer School in Film Studies in Georgia (2019). His writings have appeared in Variety, FIPRESCI, Central Asian Journal of Art Studies, Festivalists, filmofil, Duart, LIT Verlag, and other publications. He has participated in industry events and workshops in Warsaw, Sarajevo, and Vilnius, and has covered major film festivals including Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Vienna, Turin, GoEast, and Karlovy Vary as an invited critic and journalist. In 2025, he served on the FIPRESCI jury at the Venice Film Festival. He has also presented at international scientific conferences in Vienna, Vilnius, Montreal, and Kazbegi, and in the fall of 2025 he will join a short-term exchange program at the University of Minho in Braga, delivering lectures and seminars.
