At the Bari International Film Festival (Italy, March 21–28, 2015), FIPRESCI marked its 90th anniversary with a series of masterclasses and award ceremonies honoring Jean-Jacques Annaud, Alan Parker, Costa-Gavras, Ettore Scola, Andrzej Wajda, Edgar Reitz, Margarethe von Trotta, and Nanni Moretti. Conceived as a celebration of filmmakers whose work has been consistently championed by critics, the initiative highlighted the enduring dialogue between cinema and film criticism.
Following its inaugural edition in Bari, the award continued to be presented at various international festivals before finding a permanent home at the Sofia International Film Festival in Bulgaria, where it has since been awarded annually.
