For more than a century, FIPRESCI has celebrated cinema through the independent voice of film criticism. Across festivals, cultures, and generations of filmmakers, our awards reflect a shared belief that cinema is both an art form and a vital cultural language.

International Critics’ Prize

At the heart of this journey stands the International Critics’ Prize, presented at a growing network of international film festivals worldwide. Over time, it has become a globally respected mark of critical recognition, highlighting films that expand cinematic language while remaining deeply connected to the craft of filmmaking. As of 2026, the federation collaborates with more than 80 international film festivals worldwide.

Beyond the Festivals

Alongside the main prize, our special distinctions extend this critical dialogue in different directions: honoring outstanding achievements of the year, celebrating documentary cinema, supporting new regional talents, recognizing lifetime artistic contribution, and preserving the legacy of films and creators that continue to resonate across time.

Together, these distinctions create an ongoing dialogue between critics and filmmakers, connecting the past, present, and future of world cinema through the lens of independent criticism.
