Since its inception, FIPRESCI has placed strong emphasis on education, recognizing that young critics, in particular, require guidance within the constantly evolving landscape of the film industry. As film literacy has developed into a distinct discipline and technological innovations have shifted critical practice from predominantly written forms toward audiovisual expression, the professional environment for critics has changed profoundly. Through its network of experienced members, FIPRESCI supports emerging and early-career critics by offering mentorship and professional guidance, notably through its Talent Press programs.

These programs provide a hands-on introduction to the realities of film journalism at international festivals. Participants work under the supervision of established professionals, learning to navigate time pressure, refine their critical voice, and adapt their writing to different outlets and audiences. In the process, they gain insight into the competitive nature of contemporary film criticism while engaging directly with industry professionals. Selected texts are published by cinema-focused platforms, including FIPRESCI’s own channels.

Additional educational initiatives, developed in partnership with selected festivals, are planned for the future: stay tuned!
