Critics in favor of “Toni Erdmann” as Best Foreign Language Movie
Palm Springs. At the 28th “Palm Springs International Film Festival” (PSIFF, USA, January 2-16, 2017), the FIPRESCI Jury focused on the films submitted to the Best Foreign Language Film category of the Academy Awards and presented the “International Critics’ Prize (FIPRESCI Prize) for the Best Foreign Language Film of the Year (2016)” to Maren Ade’s “Toni Erdmann” – “for its originality, human complexity and unique tonal orchestration that seems natural and uncalculated. It is also an observant look at corporate culture carried by two wonderful performances.” See our reports on the festivals of Cannes 2016 and Palm Springs 2017.
