European Discovery – Prix FIPRESCI
The Oldenburg International Film Festival informs
The Oldenburg International Film Festival is honored to host an esteemed European nomination committee which will meet to decide and officially announce the five nominated films for the prestigious award »European Discovery – Prix FIPRESCI«. Dedicated to a first feature-length film by a European director, the award is presented jointly by the European Film Academy (EFA) and the International Federation of Film Critics, FIPRESCI. The committee will gather in Oldenburg to deliberate on Saturday, September 19, and then officially announce the nominations for this category of the European Film Awards live during the Closing Night Gala at the State Theatre in Oldenburg, on September 20.
In deciding to choose Oldenburg to host this European Film Academy event, Chairwoman of the EFA Board, Oscar-nominated director Agnieszka Holland said the following: “The Board of the European Film Academy is very happy that the committee which will decide upon the five nominations in the category European Discovery 2015 – Prix FIPRESCI, will have the opportunity to hold its jury meeting at the Oldenburg Film Festival. The best decisions are always made when you are on the spot, in this case a festival that is known for its heart for young filmmakers and for an inspiring and innovative environment.”
Over its 22 year history, the Oldenburg International Film Festival has grown to become one of the most highly respected Independent Film Festivals worldwide, referred to by film industry trades as “The German Sundance”. Ms. Holland’s poignant statement is reflective of the Festival’s ongoing dedication and commitment to discovering and supporting new voices and original visions in film, and providing an atmosphere wherein such brave innovation is celebrated. Referring to this newly established cooperation, EFA Board Member Dagmar Jacobsen states: “I’m very pleased about the opportunity to discuss and announce the nomination of the five most interesting European first films of 2015 in “a place that shines”, to quote Stanley Kubrick. Oldenburg is renowned for its exquisite selection of innovative and surprising films – as it is for their selection of European first films. I personally enjoy coming home for some days, to remember my first movie experience as a child.”
The European Discovery 2015 – Prix FIPRESCI will be presented at the 28th European Film Awards on December 12 in Berlin. We look forward to welcoming the nomination commission composed by esteemed members of EFA and FIPRESCI to Oldenburg:
