Our jury focused on the Chinese-language films in the “Young Cinema Competition”.
The winning film was awarded with the following motivation: “For its masterful approach and inventive visual style in blending Chinese Sichuan classical opera into a unique cinematic experience, in which a mixture of farce and tragedy, political melodrama and historical epic, individual recollection and collective memory are presented in a meticulously contrived mise en scène in order to convey the major upheavals of Twentieth-century China”.
