Motivation: “Within the taut duration of only 85 minutes, Growing Down utilizes its stylish desaturated camera and emotionally resonant sound mixing to articulate an astute meditation on grief and the self-fulfilling prophecy of impending loss. The film employs our immediate assumptions about the traumatized and troubled Dénes (a haunting debut performance by Ágoston Sáfrány) only to conclude with a profoundly realistic twist that challenges our prejudice and unveils the machinations of grief beyond what we ordinarily expect”.
