Motivation for the prize: “The Girl with the Needle” tells the story of a working-class woman who tries to survive in a pitiless post-World War I Copenhagen. Magnus von Horn depicts in a very aesthetic black-and-white the darkness of a society where women were not allowed to make decisions about their bodies. The film provokes revealing questions about our humanity even nowadays”.
