Juries in Pandemic Times

Dear Colleagues,

We are going through tough times. All the film industry is negatively affected by the pandemic. Fortunately, the festivals continue to get organized in one way or another.

However, we don’t get enough applications for our juries.

In fact, we establish online juries and organize online meetings for most of the festivals. This is an opportunity for film critics all around the world to see films by serving on our juries. You may watch recent productions that may not have the chance to be released at all…

As you know, before the pandemic, festivals have been avoiding intercontinental flights due to budget restrictions. Therefore our juries often lacked a geographical diversity despite our efforts to include collegues from other continents. We hope to turn the online jury work into an opportunity to restore the diversity.

We would like to encourage you to disregard the geographical limitations of the festivals and do not refrain from applying for our juries. Also, the festivals keep postponing the dates. On our website we maintain a regularly updated list of coming festivals and available juries, see https://fipresci.org/members-area/juries/ (the id to access the members area is ‘fipresci_member’, the password is ‘truffaut’). Please do not refrain from applying. You might still get a chance. Apply exceptionally to us directly (jury@fipresci.org), however inform your national section.

Your coverage and reports will be much appreciated in these hard times.

We wish you healthy and happy days to enjoy good films.
