Elli Mastorou
Film Critic, Belgium
Born in Athens and raised in Brussels, Elli Mastorou has been passionate about movies, writing, languages and travelling since as long as she can remember. She studied Art History and Cinema Theory between Brussels (ULB-ELICIT) and Paris (Nanterre). Writings include a university thesis on Wes Anderson’s cinema and a publication on Emile Zola’s film adaptations. Since 2012 she has worked as a freelance film critic for print, web, TV and radio in french-speaking Belgium (L’Avenir, RTBF, Metro, Marie-Claire Belgique, LN24, Surimpressions), covering weekly film releases as well as national and international festivals. From 2020 to 2025 she was a member of the programming team at Love International Film Festival in Mons, Belgium. Since 2021, she is the President of the Belgian Film Press Union (UPCB-UBFP), the national section of FIPRESCI founded in Brussels in 1925, making her the first woman at the head of the Union. FIPRESCI jury work include Message to Man Documentary Festival in Saint Petersburg (2017), Cannes film festival (2018), BAFICI Buenos Aires Independent Film Festival (2019), Thessaloniki International Film Festival (2020), Tunis Carthage International Film Festival (2024) and Beyond Borders International Film Festival in Kastellorizo (2025). She currently lives and works between Brussels and Athens.
