Lika Glurjidze

Lika Glurjidze is a film researcher, curator, programmer, and playwright based in Georgia.

She holds a PhD in Cultural Studies from Ilia State University and has been an invited lecturer there since 2019, teaching courses on documentary cinema and road movies. She is a member of FIPRESCI and vice-president of FIPRESCI Georgia since November 2023. She has worked with several film platforms in Georgia, including the Kutaisi International Short Film Festival, the Documentary Association Georgia (DOCA), CinExpress, and Projection 24.

Her main field of research is Georgian documentary cinema. Since 2024 she has been working with the Documentary Association Georgia (DOCA), developing research and curatorial programs on Georgian documentary cinema, including archival study and programming on Georgian documentary cinema of the 1990s (2024-2025), as well as ongoing research on the 1970s and 1980s.

She is the Program Coordinator of the Kutaisi International Short Film Festival, where she has curated programs focusing on film classics, including Italian Cinema Classics: Labor, Time, and Memory (2026), Rainer Werner Fassbinder: The Trauma and Memory of New German Cinema (2025), Czechoslovak New Wave (2023), Chantal Akerman: The Room Must Be Exploded (2023), and Jonas Mekas: Portraits from the 20th Century (2022), among others.

She has collaborated as a programmer and curator with CinExpress, a Georgian film platform, organizing and curating film screenings and discussions at Cinema House. Her work includes film programs dedicated to Andrzej Wajda (2026), Alexander Kluge (2026), Joachim Trier (2026), Krzysztof Kieślowski (2025), Miloš Forman (2024), Dutch Film Week (2026), and others.

She studied playwriting at Temur Chkheidze Studio of the Royal District Theater in Tbilisi. Her first play Solomon’s Heart won first place at the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Prize in Dramaturgy 2025 and was presented in a public reading at the Royal District Theatre. Her second play, Eurydice, was published in the collective volume Not a Single Play by Temur Chkheidze’s Studio (2025).

Her work bridges theory and practice, focusing on documentary cinema, archives, cultural memory, displacement, feminist theory, and underrepresented voices in film history.
