Silvia Bahl

Silvia Bahl is a freelance film critic and cultural studies researcher based in Berlin. She has been publishing film reviews and festival reports since 2010 in various online and print outlets such as Programmkino, Kinofenster, Filmdienst and Der Freitag.

 Until 2018 she has worked as assistant programmer for Filmkunstkinos Düsseldorf after participating in a film theatre manager training. From 2014-2018 she has also been teaching seminars on film and cultural theory as a research assistant at Heinrich-Heine-University in collaboration with the Black Box Cinema at Filmmuseum Düsseldorf with a special focus on essay film and documentary formats.

From 2018-2021 she has been a member of the DFG research training group Knowledge in the Arts at the University of the Arts Berlin. In her PhD project she focuses on the problem of memory, cinematic figuration and visual justice in the aftermath of political violence.
