Stephen ‘Spling’ Aspeling is a South African film critic, author, and industry consultant with a nearly two-decade career based in Cape Town.He hosted the weekly radio program “Talking Movies” on Fine Music Radio for over 650 consecutive episodes and wrote “The Essence of Dreams: An Anthology of Film Reviews,” a curated collection of films.
Aspeling runs reviewmyscript.com, a boutique script consultancy advising filmmakers and screenwriters from first draft to first edit.
A member of FIPRESCI (International Federation of Film Critics) and the Writers’ Guild of South Africa (WGSA), he also established the Film Critics Association of South Africa (FCASA), and serves as a juror for film festivals and a judge for film schools.
