Amal Elgamal

Film Critic, Egypt

Academic writer and researcher in the semiology of film and television pictures. She obtained Ph.D. in Film Criticism with distinction. She wrote the scenarios for a number of documentaries for the European Broadcasting Union, in cooperation with Egyptian television, on animals threatened with extinction.

She has written two scripts for fiction films, one based on a short story by Youssef Idris called “Beyond Reason”, and the other based on a novel called “The Net” written by Sherif Hetata, awarded a prize in 2009 at the Alexandria Mediterranean Film Festival.

She participated in many Egyptian, Arab, and international jury committees, including the Moscow International Festival, Cairo, ElGouna, Tetouan at Morocco,  Aswan, Kuwait, Malmo, and Italy.

She has published twelve cinematic and literary books, including “Through the Eyes of a Woman”, “Arab Filmography of Co-production”, “Co-production in Egyptian Cinema”, “Youssef Chahine”, “The killers between Hemingway and Tarkovsky, “The cinematic language in literature, a comparative study between Sherif Hetata and Tarkovsky”, “Egyptian Cinema In International film festival”, “Samir Farid.
