Barbara Gasser

Mag. Barbara Gasser holds the position of Vice President of the Austrian Film Critics Guild, the dual position of a director on the Board and Executive Secretary of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. She is the only female journalist to date to have served two terms on the boards of directors of both, the Los Angeles Press Club and later the HFPA. Barbara Gasser is a Golden Globe voter and accredited with the Motion Picture Association. She is the first Austrian journalist to have served as an international juror at the International Film Festivals Mar del Plata, Las Palmas de Canarias, Ibiza, Tromso, Mestia, Miskolc, Tirana, Miskolc and Helsinki. Additionally, she has contributed her expertise as a FIPRESCI jury-member, including Cannes, Golden Apricot, Heartland, Palic, Filmkunstfest MV, Munich and Vienna. Throughout her career Ms. Gasser has won numerous awards, including the National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Award and the Southern California Journalism Award. Further recognizing her international contributions, Ms. Gasser is the recipient of the Astarte Award and the Jackie Coogan Award. Ms. Gasser holds a master’s degree from the University of Vienna, and regularly engages with the academic community as a guest lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences Joanneum. The native of Austria was named Goodwill Ambassador of the Federal Province of Steiermark, Austria.
