Övgü Gökçe

Övgü Gökçe is a film critic, writer, and cultural producer based in Turkey. She is a longtime member of Altyazı, the leading independent film publication and cinema association in Turkey, where she has served as writer, editor, and board member since 2001. She is a member of SİYAD (Turkish Film Critics Association) and FIPRESCI. Her academic background spans philosophy, cinema studies, and interdisciplinary arts. She completed her MA with a thesis on narration in post-revolutionary Iranian cinema, and pursued doctoral studies in interdisciplinary arts. She has taught a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses on film history, visual culture, Turkish cinema, and international cinemas, and has presented at conferences and seminars internationally. She has contributed to numerous catalogues and publications, and designed and organized workshops in visual arts and comparative literature.

From 2011 to 2023, she served as program coordinator and director at the Diyarbakır Arts Center, where she developed interdisciplinary art programs across photography, video, and comparative literature. She facilitated cultural collaborations and fostered partnerships among artists, public institutions, and civil society organizations across Turkey and Europe. She has participated as a jury member and consultant in various international projects and film festivals. She currently serves on the advisory board of Altyazı Fasikül: Free Cinema and contributes to designing and planning rights-based cinema projects and Altyazı film seminars. Her areas of interest include cinema in Turkey and its historiography, the relationship between film and other arts, international cinemas, documentary and essay films, experimental film, and video essays.
