Cinema New Wave

As the family sets out on the car journey to bring Grandma home for Christmas, the unseasonal bickering between Anna’ parents differs from her special bond with the older woman. Suddenly fate strikes, bringing out the fragility of life and the unique importance of past memories. For its delicate approach and taut structure,  in a sustained visual and sonorous vein, As If I Should/Mintha Kéne, by Bianka Szelestey, wins the FIPRESCI award in the Cinema New Wave section of Hungarian short films.

International Competition

For a sensitive portrayal of human relations, for its wealth of themes and its poetic use of the uncanny, this tale of a strong-minded country woman who falls in love for the first time, embodies the unexpectedness of life. The outstanding performance by Eka Chavleishvili brilliantly serves the directorial vision. The FIPRESCI prize goes to Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry/Shashvi shashvi maq’vali by Elene Naveriani.
